Parenthood Decoded: The Essentials

Parenthood Decoded: The Essentials Blog Post Header

When my sister got a puppy, I realized how much stuff we’ve accumulated. So, I’m spilling all of our secrets for how we survive the daily.

My Non-Negotiable Doggo Essentials:

Mealtime

Yeti Bowls: Not just cute, but seriously hygienic and stainless steel for our fresh/raw diet.

LickiMat: The ultimate boredom buster (bonus: freezer-friendly!) Have you tried the Yoggie Pot? We’re obsessed! I honestly didn’t believe in LickiMats until I babysat my in-laws dogs! My girls love them frozen with pumpkin!

Pro Hack: Mix bone broth, fresh food, and supplements for a nutrition bomb

Training & Mental Stimulation

Kong: The OG distraction tool. Seriously, cannot name a time when there weren’t Kongs in the house. Make sure you have the appropriate size so they aren’t a choking hazard. These are the only “toys” I leave for the girls when I leave the house.

Longlines: Freedom with control (hunting dog approved!) This one specifically is affordable and comes in the best colors! I take a longline everywhere because even with great recalls, “dogs must be leashed.”

Treats that make training feel like a party

   • Bocee’s

   • Farm to Pet

   • The Honest Kitchen Fish Skin Chews

Safety & Connection

Petcube: Because I’m totally that helicopter mom. Seriously, I’d hate to admit how many times I check in on the girls!

Multiple collars with purpose. A slip lead and flat buckle live in the vehicles at all times but every collar has a different purpose, use them for their intended use.

Microchipping (non-negotiable!) and AKC Reunite Tag!

The Little Extras That Matter

Lambchop toys (because every dog needs a BFF)

Grooming tools that make brushing a bonding moment. The must have for every dog home! They should be used daily! These were gifted to us from our groomer when we made our announcement of adding a puppy. We’ve grown our grooming kit since but I don’t leave the house without this brush and this comb.

Virbac Toothpaste: Dental health is real health. I have used Virbac for more than 10 years and find it is such an important part of our schedule.
